One day the artist Henri Matisse cut a small bird from a piece of white paper and pinned it on the wall of his apartment. He didn't know it then, but he had taken the first step in creating a new form of art, one that would soon transform the walls of his studio into a blooming, vibrant garden.
With colorful cut-paper illustrations by Cristina Amodeo and reproductions of eight of Matisse's own cut-outs, "Matisse's Garden" is the story of an endlessly curious artist who used scissors and painted paper to make something utterly new.
