Although Günther Förg's work has been chronicled by a steady stream of exhibitions and catalogues, this new presentation of his work -the most extensive to date- has something new to offer. Three years have passed since his first museum show in Germany, and durng that time his focus of interest has shifted considerably. Instead of the wall paintings and photographs shown in Krefeld, one will now able to see his "lead paintings", bronze reliefs, steles and other sculptural pieces, in addition to his canvas paintings, the so-called wood works and large-scale works on paper. Many of these are nrew and were created specially for this travelling exhibition as is true, for instance, of the recent series of lead paintings. Only an exhibition which confronts the various genres with the others can convey the inner relationship between each of these. This, more than anything else, is what the present show has set as its prime objective. [...]
