Luciano Castelli belongs to those Swiss artists who -like many others before him- went abroad to seek fulfillment. A native of Lucerne, he has been living in Berlin since 1978 and has become an integral part of the art scene there. However, his pictures, actions and photographs had already attracted attention long before he moved to Berlin.
This book traces the work of the extremely versatile, 35-year-old artist from his earliest beginnings almost twenty years ago. Drawings, collages and photographs, produced when he was eighteen, show an enviably uninhibited and carefree use of glitter, sequins, feathers and crayons, as if these materials were perfectly natural to paintings. Luciano Castelli's first major breakthrough at the "Transformer" exhibition in Lucerne created quite a stir. From then on, it became obvious that he was pursuing a vision: transforming, altering, disguising and paintings his own body. His body has always been the central issue, the vehicle of his art. [...]
