It has become possible to enter art history as a writer from a variety of places and it the idea of a grid implies the imposition of an external of formal system, then to speak isomorphically is to suggest another way of looking -as, for example, imagining a world beyond latitude/longitude lines. For this reason, and from this viewpoint, "Binocular" seemed an appropriate tittle for an anthology of essays on contemporary visual culture.
