From the early sixties, Fluxus followed in the footsteps of the Futurist and Dada avant-gardes, going against the established grain of Fine Art and Official Art.
The movement encompassed a new aesthetic of reductive gesturality, part Dada, part Bauhaus and part Zen, and presumed that all media and artistic disciplines were fair game for combination and fusion. Initially received as little more than an international network of pranksters, the admittedly playful artists of Fluxus were, and remaind, a network of radical visionaries who have sought to change political and social, as well as aesthetic, perception.
The Fluxfil Anthology consists of 37 short films dating 1932-1970. Ranging from 10 seconds to 10 minutues, they were shown at that time a part of the events and happenings of the New York avant-garde as elements of ephemeral environments. This collection, celebrating the ephemeral humor of the movement, is the last version compiled by George Maciuas (1931-1978), founder of Fluxus, of his films with those of the artists listed below.
